2017 was a good year for water snakes at the Ottery. Our dock, canoes and surrounding area seemed to always have several large snakes draped and enjoying the sun. In 2018 there were a lot fewer and none of the very large ones.
This one dragged a very large sunfish from the lake, and started eating it.
The boats at the dock are popular warm spots for basking. But this can lead to surprises; neither we nor the snakes like being in a canoe together!
