I first noticed these were in the area when they flew past with their distinctive call. A few days later I came across five adults and a juvenile in the only open water around (it was an exceptionally cold January), between the Bedford Road culvert and Rothwell Lake, where they mainly appeared as small icebergs, spending most of their time with their heads underwater foraging for food.
