We first noticed a bush turkey vigorously poking at the brush beside the path, and then realised there was an echidna deep in the leaf litter. We assumed the echidna had found an ant nest and the bush turkey was attracted by the action and joining the feast.

We had glimpsed a number of echidnas in the verge beside the road as we drove around, but had been unable to stop. This one was conveniently close to a walking trail.
