The first sign of spring at the Ottery is when the hepatica bloom on the sunny exposed east facing slopes, in a varity of white, pink and blue shades.

I'd been watching all the likely places for several days and on April 2nd saw this, the first flower of the year. Close by was another, a blue variant. The lake was not yet fully clear of ice.
