We started seeing road-kill kangaroos soon after driving north of the Blue Mountains, but it was a couple of days before we saw any live ones. It was sad to see quite how many dead ones there were, but we realised that there weren't many carrion eaters to clean up the carcases. Driving fast between dusk and dawn carries a very big risk of hitting a kangaroo.
These kangaroos were seen at the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo. There the only captive creatures were Tasmania devils, kept as a part of a conservation project. All the other animals were wild and free, but attracted to the grounds by being fed occasionally.
