This garter had a very strong coppery-coloured lower band which I'd not seen before. (Not very visible in this photo.)
An epic battle as a garter snake caught and tried to eat an American toad that appeared far too large. I watched for quite a while but saw no conclusion. Tough to see, given how careful I am to avoid stepping on young toads, but the snakes must eat...
