The lowly grackle isn't the most photogenic bird around. But this one appeared at the water's edge to drink while I was figuring out my new lens.

So often grackles appear as a small flock of nondescript black birds, with unmelodious voices, and looking wrong when they fly because their tail twists 90° to act like a rudder. But close up, especially when the sun shines, their iridescent blue head makes them look quite exotic.
